Episode Zero: A Good Place to Start the Year

The beginning of a new year invites a certain kind of question.

Not the loud ones about goals or productivity — but the quieter ones that tend to get drowned out once things speed up again.

Questions like:

Am I paying attention to the right things?
What actually gives me energy?
Where did curiosity go when life got busy?

I’ve been sitting with those questions for a while now.

And they’re what led me to start recording conversations.

Creativity isn’t something you ‘find’. It’s something that slowly shapes who you become if you stay committed long enough.
— Kanja Chen - Writer, Producer, Puppeteer, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

The Pattern I Keep Seeing

No matter who I’m talking to — artists, scientists, designers, educators, founders — the pattern is the same.

Different careers.
Different definitions of success.

Same human experience.

Doubt doesn’t disappear with time.
Play keeps showing up before insight.
And creativity feels less like a talent and more like a practice you either make room for… or don’t.

That realization is what sparked This Podcast Needs a Name.

This Podcast Needs a Name is a show where I bring two people from completely different worlds together to talk about creativity — not as a buzzword, but as a lived experience.

What’s fascinating is how quickly the patterns emerge.

  • An astrophysicist at NASA and a toy photographer.

  • A puppeteer and a luxury designer.

  • A science communicator and a poet.

Different jobs — Same creative highs and lows.

They talk about imposter syndrome. Creativity under constraints. The fear of getting it wrong. The joy of getting lost.

And why play often shows up right before the best ideas do.

What Episode Zero Is (and Isn’t)

Episode Zero isn’t a summary of what’s to come.

It’s an orientation.

A way to slow things down before jumping into conversations.
To name the patterns before spotlighting the people.
And to remind ourselves that growth doesn’t always mean adding more — sometimes it means noticing what’s already there.

Each episode brings two people from different worlds together and lets them talk honestly about how ideas take shape in real life.

The uncertainty.
The constraints.
The joy.
And the work of continuing to show up.

Creativity isn’t a talent. It’s a skill you build — and learn to trust when [a project] looks terrible.
— Jordan Goddard - Founder, Indy Toy Lab & Former Apple Designer

An Invitation, Not a Requirement

If you listen to Episode Zero, you’ll hear why this project exists and what I’m hoping to explore.

If you don’t, that’s fine too.

This podcast isn’t meant to be consumed in order.
It’s meant to be entered wherever something catches your attention.

If you’re looking for something thoughtful to start the year — or simply a reminder that you’re not behind — you can find Episode Zero below.
